Well, in terms of a place where the air pollution is heavy, I will say it is Beijing, the most famous city in China. You know, this is the biggest city in our country, and it has a large population. Many young people would like to go there to find jobs and make money. So do I. Thus, I have gone to the city after I graduated from my university in 2007. I remember that when I got off the plane, the first thing I saw was the gray sky. At that time, Beijing was known for its smog, because there were too many factories which kept releasing noxious gas, and also because there were a lot of private cars on the roads. So, this city did not leave me with a good first impression, but I've heard that the local government made a lot of efforts to change the bad weather conditions in this decade. For example, the Beijing government issued an odd-even car ban to reduce vehicle exhaust emissions. And also, many factories in Beijing have been shut down or have moved to other places. Now, the sky in Beijing has turned blue again. 1.Is there more pollution now than in the past?
Of course, in the past, there are not so many factories, air planes or private vehicles. But now, with the economic development of big cities, air pollution, water pollution, and noise pollution are becoming more and more serious. I think these pollutions will cause physical and mental damage to citizens, so it is time to speed up pollution treatment. 2. In what ways can air pollution be reduced effectively?Well, actually there are a bunch of methods to reduce air pollution. Like I said before, the government can issue an odd-even car ban to reduce vehicle exhaust emissions or rein the emissions of hazardous pollutants from factories and power-plant through specific regulations or taxes. Also, we can enhance environmental protection education, and make everybody evolve in environmental protection. 3. Do you think the city is cleaner or dirtier than the countryside? Why?I think it depends. if we talk about streets and roads, i will say that the street in cities is cleaner than the street in countryside, because in cities cleaners will make sure everything is spotless. But in countryside, there are less cleaners, so you can see the streets were littered with rubbish. However, if we talk about the air, then the air in cities is definitely dirtier than the air in countryside.4. What can factories and power plants do to reduce pollutant? There are a lot of things they can do. For example, they can improve their devices and productive process to reduce pollutant, since the old devices usually release more toxic gases. So i hope leaders of factories and plants can purchase more new and environmentally friendly devices. Besides, they need to strengthen legal awareness and strictly comply with regulations, it gonna be a big contribution to environmental protection. 5. Do you think many companies have been forced to reduce pollutants?Yes, especially in China, many companies have been forced to reduce pollution. I've heard that some companies in specific fields have to develop an environmental protection plan, and conduct it . Then , in the end of one year, if they do not follow the plan, they will be imposed a fine.6. Do you think wind has any effect on pollution? How?That's a really tricky question for me, it is too professional! i can just say, from my own experience, the wind has an effect on pollution, especially air pollution. To be particular, the wind can disperse the smog, so every time there is wind, the haze will not be as serious as usual.
